Medicines and safety
Apple Cider Vinegar With Diabetes Medicines: What to Ask Before You Add Glyco Reset
Apple cider vinegar may lower blood sugar a little, so it can add to insulin, sulfonylureas such as glipizide and meglitinides, the medicines that can cause lows (NIDDK: Low blood glucose). Heavy vinegar use has been tied to low potassium, which matters with water pills and digoxin (MSKCC About Herbs: Apple cider vinegar). Show the Glyco Reset bottle to your doctor first and never change a medicine on your own.

The short answer
Does apple cider vinegar interact with diabetes medicines?
It can stack with some of them. In trials of people with type 2 diabetes, 13.75 to 30 mL of vinegar a day lowered fasting glucose by about 22 mg/dL, though most of those trials were low quality (Arjmandfard 2025 ACV meta-analysis (type 2 diabetes)). Vinegar with a meal also blunted the after-meal rise (Shishehbor 2017 vinegar meta-analysis (after meals)).
A small push down is harmless for many people. Added to a medicine that already pushes glucose down hard, it is one more weight on the same side of the scale. That is why the drug you take matters more than the drops.
Glyco Reset names apple cider vinegar as its main active. How much vinegar one serving holds is not published, and no study of the product exists.
Medicine by medicine
Which diabetes medicines need a doctor's OK first?
Find your medicine in the left column. Bring the bottle to the visit.
| Medicine | The concern | Ask your doctor |
|---|---|---|
| Insulin | Can cause lows on its own; vinegar may add a little (NIDDK: Low blood glucose) | Should I check my glucose more often for a while? |
| Glipizide, glimepiride (sulfonylureas) | Can cause lows on their own (NIDDK: Low blood glucose) | Is any extra glucose-lowering a risk for me? |
| Repaglinide, nateglinide (meglitinides) | Can cause lows on their own (NIDDK: Low blood glucose) | Does timing with meals change anything? |
| Metformin | Not one of the medicines NIDDK names for lows, but often paired with one that is (NIDDK: Low blood glucose) | Is it worth it, given how little vinegar a dropper holds? |
| Water pills (diuretics), digoxin | Case reports link heavy vinegar use to low potassium (MSKCC About Herbs: Apple cider vinegar) | Should my potassium be checked? |
| Insulin with slow stomach emptying (type 1) | Vinegar slowed emptying in a small study (Hlebowicz 2007 ACV and gastroparesis) | Could it throw off my insulin timing? |
If your medicine is not listed, ask anyway. Our sources do not cover every drug, and silence is not a green light.
Know the signs
Can Glyco Reset cause low blood sugar?
On its own, a dropper of vinegar is unlikely to push most people too low. The risk sits with the medicines that already can. Picture a 66-year-old woman on glimepiride who skips lunch on a busy day. Her pill keeps working whether she eats or not. Anything extra that nudges glucose down is worth her doctor knowing about.
Shaky, sweaty, confused, or a reading under 70 mg/dL. Eat or drink 15 to 20 grams of fast carbohydrate and check again in 15 minutes. A severe low needs glucagon and a 911 call (NIDDK: Low blood glucose).
After any low, call your doctor before the next dose of drops. Keep your log; it shows what happened and when.
Water pills and digoxin
Is apple cider vinegar safe with a water pill?
Ask first. Memorial Sloan Kettering lists case reports of low potassium after heavy, long-term vinegar use (MSKCC About Herbs: Apple cider vinegar). Some water pills also lower potassium, and digoxin becomes riskier when potassium runs low.
The reports involved large daily amounts, far beyond a dropper. Still, nobody can tell you how much vinegar a Glyco Reset serving holds. A routine blood test settles the question better than a guess.

Order nowType 1 diabetes
Does vinegar affect insulin timing in type 1 diabetes?
It can in people whose stomachs already empty slowly. In a pilot study of 10 people with type 1 diabetes and gastroparesis, 30 mL of vinegar in water slowed emptying further: 27% without vinegar against 17% with it (Hlebowicz 2007 ACV and gastroparesis). Food that leaves the stomach late can make mealtime insulin peak at the wrong moment.
Ten people is a very small study. It is a reason to ask, not a verdict.
Quick check
Should you ask your doctor before taking Glyco Reset?
Five questions. A single yes means show the bottle at your next visit.
At the visit
What should you bring to your doctor?
- The bottle itself, so your doctor sees the six named ingredients and the missing panel
- Your medicine list with doses and times
- Two weeks of glucose readings, if you check at home
- Any vinegar you already take from the kitchen
Keep every medicine exactly as prescribed. NIH says unproven products should never replace diabetes care (NCCIH: Diabetes and dietary supplements). A serious reaction goes to the FDA's Safety Reporting Portal (FDA: How to report a supplement problem). More in Glyco Reset side effects and who Glyco Reset suits.
- Low Blood Glucose (Hypoglycemia). National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIH), current page. For many people with diabetes, low blood glucose is below 70 mg/dL; insulin, sulfonylureas and meglitinides can cause it. Treat with 15 to 20 grams of fast-acting carbohydrate and recheck in 15 minutes; severe lows need glucagon and a 911 call.
- Apple Cider Vinegar (About Herbs). Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, 2026.Evidence on glucose, lipids and weight "is not conclusive due to heterogeneity between studies." Case reports after excessive intake include esophageal injury and low potassium with osteoporosis; raw or unpasteurized ACV has been linked to E. coli and Cryptosporidium outbreaks. Updated April 3, 2026.
- Effect of apple cider vinegar on delayed gastric emptying in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus: a pilot study. Hlebowicz J, Darwiche G, Bjorgell O, Almer LO; BMC Gastroenterology 7:46, 2007.In 10 people with type 1 diabetes and gastroparesis, 30 mL ACV in 200 mL water slowed stomach emptying further (median gastric emptying rate 27% without vinegar vs 17% with it, p < 0.05), which may be a disadvantage for blood sugar control.
FAQ
Vinegar drops and diabetes medicines: common questions
Can I take Glyco Reset with glipizide?
Only after your doctor agrees. Glipizide is a sulfonylurea, a class that can cause low blood sugar on its own, and vinegar may lower glucose a little more. Show the bottle at your visit and keep checking your glucose as advised.
Is apple cider vinegar safe with insulin?
Ask your doctor first. Insulin can cause lows by itself, and vinegar may add a small extra drop. If you have type 1 diabetes with slow stomach emptying, vinegar may also shift when food reaches your gut and upset insulin timing.
Does apple cider vinegar interact with metformin?
None of the sources we cite reports a direct vinegar and metformin interaction. Metformin is not among the medicines NIDDK names for lows, but many people take it with one that is. Ask your doctor before adding Glyco Reset.
Can apple cider vinegar replace my diabetes medicine?
No. No study shows that vinegar or any supplement can stand in for prescribed diabetes medicine, and NIH warns against swapping medical treatment for unproven products. Keep every medicine exactly as prescribed.
Can vinegar lower potassium?
Heavy, long-term vinegar use has been linked to low potassium in case reports. That matters most if you take a water pill or digoxin. A dropper holds far less than those cases, but ask your doctor whether a potassium check makes sense.
What should I do if my blood sugar drops after taking Glyco Reset?
Treat the low first: 15 to 20 grams of fast carbohydrate, then recheck in 15 minutes. Call 911 for a severe low. Afterwards, stop the drops and call your doctor before taking another serving.
